Kidnapping suspect wounded in gun battle during hour-long standoff in L.A.

LOS ANGELES (KTLA)– An armed man wanted for kidnapping surrendered after an hour-long standoff with deputies following a pursuit that ended in a gun battle in South Los Angeles Friday.

The man, driving a white SUV, swerved through busy streets, nearly hit a skateboarder and waved at cars to let him through intersections, aerial footage showed.

The chase finally ended on a residential street near W. 43rd St. and Vermont Ave. (map) around 5:30 p.m.

The man got out of the SUV and began walking toward deputies waving a gun and shouting, aerial video showed.

At that point, several shots were exchanged between the man and deputies.
