#AceNewsReport – TANZANIA:May.06: At least two UN peacekeepers from Tanzania died and 13 others were wounded as suspected Ugandan Islamist rebels ambushed their patrol unit, the United Nations said Wednesday.
Another four peacekeepers have disappeared after the attack. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned the violence, adding that the mission was “carrying out its protection-of-civilians mandate.” The ambush took place in the village of Kikiki, located in the North Kivu province, Reuters quoted spokesman for the MONUSCO mission, Felix Basse, as saying.
The mission’s head, Martin Kobler, has promised “robust offensive operations” in the view of the recent spate of militant violence against UN peacekeepers. Earlier on Monday, gunmen shot at the MONUSCO helicopter with military chief aboard.
Congo’s army said it has killed 16 Ugandan rebels over the weekend in the same area.
