MELFORT, Sask. – A woman has been charged with murder after the death of a Saskatchewan man. The body of Alpheus Burns, 70, was found early Monday morning at a home in Melfort.
At the time, Mounties said his death was suspicious. An autopsy is scheduled to take place Tuesday in Saskatoon.
A woman has since turned herself into Melfort RCMP. Candace Gail Moostoos, 34, is charged with second-degree murder. She is also charged with failing to comply with a probation order from an unrelated incident.
Police say Burns and Moostoos were known to each other.
Moostoos has made her first court appearance and will remain in custody until her next appearance on June 16 at Melfort provincial court.
Melfort is approximately 160 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
