Several downtown streets have been closed off to drivers and pedestrians due to an excavation problem and “an unsafe Gaz Métro hose,” said Montreal police spokesperson André Leclerc.
The excavation is part of the roadwork taking place on Guy St.
A security perimeter was established around 11:25 a.m. on Friday between Mackay and Pierce Sts. and de Maisonneuve Blvd. and Ste-Catherine St. West. The Guy St. entrance to the Guy-Concordia métro station is also closed. The St-Mathieu St. métro entrance remains open.
Firefighters and Gaz Métro personnel are on the scene.
“The perimeter may affect the afternoon rush hour, we have to keep an eye on that,” Leclerc said.
